Guest reviews of Le Papayer Ecolodge in Cap Skirring

Your words matter too much to be forgotten.

Every stay leaves its mark: a sunrise over the mangroves, a slow-cooked dinner facing the ocean, a trip out by pirogue, a few words shared at sunset. We keep these voices here with care — they tell the story of Le Papayer far better than we ever could. Take a moment to listen.

If you want to discover an authentic paradise far from all of society's pressures, then I strongly recommend a stay at Le Papayer Ecolodge. You cannot be disappointed. Laurent (the owner) and his wonderful, caring team will make your stay idyllic. What's more, knowing that the ecolodge is completely self-sufficient in energy and water is a real feat in this region. Laurent achieved his project after a few hurdles and a great deal of determination. One can only admire his daily efforts to offer us this magical place.

A place that Laurent has made ideal for an African getaway: a magnificent, flower-filled and peaceful haven opening onto a vast beach, both reassuring and very open to its surroundings. The great house is truly beautiful and the rooms comfortable (even if the mirrors could be improved a little 😉…). Fun and enriching excursions, lovely and efficient staff, delicious meals… We can only warmly recommend this place, which also promotes a genuine ecological project, shared with passion by Laurent.

15 days of dreams. We stepped out of our comfort zone to savour the rhythms of Casamance and the wonderful welcome of the Senegalese people. We will return with immense pleasure.

Incredible place! A magnificent ecolodge nestled in a lush garden. The ocean waves quickly send you into the arms of Morpheus in the evening, and the delightful chirping of the birds wakes you with wonder. Laurent pampered us and took us to discover an animist village and its fetishes, to climb a sacred tree to admire Casamance from 25 m up, to watch manatees beneath the coconut palms and to explore the mangrove aboard a pirogue. The team took great care of us. Assan is extremely kind, Sophie sparkles with generosity, just like her little dishes, and Fatou watches carefully over the cleanliness of the place. In short, fabulous memories in a beautiful and restful place. A thousand thanks!

A little paradise by the sea. A true ecolodge with no generator, 100% security, beach access and 4x4 — anything is possible.

A very beautiful place with lovely local architecture, respectful of the site, in a lush forest garden by the water's edge. A warm welcome and impeccable service. Thank you to Laurent and his team for showing us these still-preserved sites of Casamance.

Two couples of friends (aged 57 to 59) in May 2024, an extraordinary trip to Casamance. We spent 4 days at Le Papayer ecolodge. Assan and Bana were extremely kind and attentive. Laurent imagined, designed and built a cocoon amid the greenery, the flowers and the birdsong. BRAVO to all.

Our stay at Le Papayer in January/February was a complete change of scenery, with sunshine every day and an ocean at 22/23°. The quiet Ecolodge, facing the sea, allows a total disconnection. The 4x4 excursions, the fishing trips by pirogue, the encounters with the villagers were a real delight — all the more so as the Senegalese are truly lovely and always smiling. Thank you to Laurent for all these discoveries and his availability, thank you for the grilled fish and the Senegalese dishes lovingly simmered (and for the demonstration of Senegalese dances… great evening!), thank you to Assan for his kindness and humour, and thank you to the courageous Hariette for the spotless rooms. Thank you to Le Papayer team for these unforgettable 3 weeks… a real delight!

I am the organiser of a stay at Le Papayer Ecolodge with a small group of friends — 6 people, 7 nights on site. I recommend Le Papayer, an excellent place to recharge and get away. Excellent location, just a few metres from the ocean and a huge, long beach; a restful setting in a villa with local architecture and materials, a garden full of flowers thanks to Jean, and delicious Senegalese meals prepared by our charming team and our lovely Hassan! Laurent, the owner, also organised 3 wonderful excursions for us, which he guided himself: he knows Casamance very well and we greatly enjoyed these days of discovery. A big thank you to Laurent and his whole little team for this excellent stay.
